BIO
Nicole Koenitzer is a web/print designer and painter. She graduated from Rutgers University in 2005, receiving a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Computer Science. Her unique background of art and math lead her to serve as Interactive Co-Chair for AIGA Philadelphia. She currently works as print/web designer for Edmund Optics, an international optical company. She also has a freelance brand, nicolekoenitzer.com, under which she does a wide variety of design and art projects. In her spare time she is fine arts painter, creating large scale mixed media abstract paintings up to ten feet by five feet. Her mixed media work has been exhibited in many galleries and events nationally.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
My art is about people and their layers. Therefore, a common subject of my concern is the input of society and what individuals output as a response. I sometimes use found commercial multi-media to express my ideas of layered personalities. Much like the human psyche, facets of the painting emerge through layers upon layers, revealing a larger frontal picture, where some layers are exposed and others are hidden. Another way I illustrate this concern is to use common layers of easily-recognizable material in a unique way, displaying an unexpected and less understood output.
